As soon as Mackenzie and Jason asked me to take their engagement photos, I knew I was in for a wonderful evening. Mackenzie is warm, open, and caring and makes practically anyone feel like an immediate friend. Jason is creative, funny, and always fun to be around. They live in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, very close to my own apartment, though only for a couple more weeks. Since the two are moving to Austin at the end of this month we decided that their session should really capture their life together here in Brooklyn, the place where they first met and where they first shared a home.
Mackenzie is herself a photographer, who frequently works capturing beautiful lifestyle sessions of families and couples in their homes. We wanted to encapsulate a similar feel to these photos, so we started off the day in their apartment as they worked at their side-by-side computers (so cute), chatted on their couch, and shared a couple of drinks in the kitchen. Jason (a musician) even serenaded us a bit while Mack mixed up a homemade shrub cocktail (i.e. these two are endlessly creative). Then we braved the last bit of rain to walk around the neighborhood as the sun started to set.
I feel pretty damn lucky to be friends with Mackenzie and Jason and to have had a few great years with them here in the city before they move on to their next adventures. Though I know Austin will welcome them with open arms and lots of success, I think Brooklyn will feel a little more empty with their absence (no, those aren't tears on my keyboard, dammit!...).
Mack and Jason, thank you for inviting me into your home, for your friendship, for introducing me to your awesome friends, for your endless support. Wishing you all the luck in Austin and your new lives there. Love you both!
