Mary and Jamiyl have been together for what feels like forever. This isn't a diss on how old their relationship is but a testament to how right they feel together. When you meet them side by side you know that there is a special bond between them that feels ageless and wonderful. I felt so blessed to be beside them as they took the leap to the next stage of their lives together in Washington DC last fall.
I met Mary early in my NYC years at a restaurant where we were both servers. Though we've both been through a lot of life/job changes over the intervening years, Jamiyl has been an unwavering piece of her story. Despite the questions about what would come next career-wise, there never was a question about who would be beside her.
Mary and Jamiyl decided to elope at City Hall in Washington DC. It was simple but so meaningful and perfect for them. They were surrounded by just their closest family and friends for the ceremony itself, but as they left the courthouse were greeted by bubbles and the cheers of an array of lovely friends.
Then the whole party marched together through the streets of DC to Clyde's of Gallery Place for their evening reception complete with more toasts than I've ever seen at any wedding: i.e. a true testament to how loved these two are. Then the following morning even more friends gathered together for a brunch reception with BBQ, cupcakes and doughnuts (i.e. the perfect meal).
It was a wonderful celebration of two wonderful people. Thank you to Mary and Jamiyl for letting me be a part of it!
