How to Feel Comfortable (and Even Have Fun!) in Front of the Camera on Your Wedding Day

The idea of having a camera on you all day for your wedding can feel a little intimidating. The good news? You absolutely don’t need to be a model to look and feel amazing in your photos. As your wedding photographer, one of my biggest goals is to make sure you feel relaxed, confident, and even have fun in front of the camera.

Here are a few simple ways to help you feel at ease:

1. Think about the experience, not the pose

Your wedding photos aren’t about holding the “perfect” smile or pose. They’re about the way you look at each other, laugh together, or share a quiet moment. How do you interact on a day-to-day basis when you are alone at home? Focus on your partner and the experience you’re having, and I’ll take care of the rest.

2. Movement is your best friend

If you’re feeling stiff, try walking together, holding hands, or talking about something you both love to do. Movement creates natural, genuine moments—and it makes you forget about the camera.

3. Trust your photographer

This might sound obvious, but it’s huge. You’ve chosen someone whose style you love, so let go of the pressure to “perform.” I’ll give you little prompts and direction when you need it, but I’ll also hang back to catch the candid, real stuff. You don’t need to “perform”—just be yourselves, and I’ll take care of the rest.

4. Remember—it’s supposed to be fun

You’re marrying your favorite person. This is one of the most joyful days of your life! If you lean into that joy, your photos will reflect it.

Your wedding photos should feel like you. Not stiff or overly posed, but relaxed, natural, and true to your personalities. If you keep these tips in mind and stay focused on the main goal of the day: having the best time!, I promise the camera won’t feel nearly as intimidating—and you might even forget it’s there.
