Long Island City Rooftop Elopement

Allison and Paul were set to throw a big wedding party in June of 2020—the summer that had other plans. Instead of postponing, they decided this was the perfect chance to have the wedding they really wanted: intimate and low-key. So, with the help of a dear friend, they set up a zoom elopement ceremony on their rooftop and invited me to capture the whole lovely affair.

We took some time to hop around their neighborhood in Long Island City for portraits, including some photos with their sweet pup, Fox. Then we all trekked to the rooftop and they set up their computer and their few props (a beautiful bouquet from Three Notch Florals, their vow books, their rings, and glasses to smash in celebration—along with a boot for Allison to pop on when it was time to do the deed) to exchange their vows in front of a Zoom room of family and friends. It was one of the most emotional and beautiful ceremonies I’ve ever been a part of.

They wrapped up their celebration with a first dance and mini-hora before bidding their virtual guests farewell and heading down to their apartment for Milk Bar cake and a delivery dinner.

I love that a perfect wedding can be anything from a big, traditional affair to a tiny, intimate moment exchanging promises to each other on a rooftop. It’s all about the love and connection brought to the day by those taking part. It’s a joy to capture these and everything in between.
